No one likes to talk about nutrition and to be clear I am not a nutritionist; however, I know for certain when I eat cleaner I am able to work out harder, my body functions better and I have more mental clarity. This is a challenge for me as well as most people because let’s face it, we LOVE food!
There is so much nutritional information out that it can totally make your head spin. Everyone has their own views on what should be and what shouldn’t be consumed, it can make you crazy! I believe that everyone over time can become healthier by just changing one “bad” habit at a time. These three easy tips can help that change become a reality.
TIP #1:
Make a list of what you think all your bad food choices are. Look over the list. Select one “bad” food choice from that list and make the change. For one month eliminate it and see how your body responds. Now let’s be clear, I’m not saying never eat it again but just be selective on when you do after the month and don’t overdo it.
TIP #2:
Plan your meals. Annoying, yes, but this by far is the best thing that you can do as an athlete. Know exactly when you are going to eat and what you’re going to eat. Whether you are trying to gain, lose or maintain your current weight, plan your meals. Have plenty of lean meats, vegetables, fruits, protein shakes and grains available to grab and go.
TIP #3:
Be selective when you indulge. Let’s face it, this one is easier said than done because cravings can get even the best of us in a hole. But if you can master it you are already 10 steps ahead of the game. Your friends ask hey come out! Go out have fun but have enough discipline to say no or bring your food with you. Your friends, I guarantee will talk trash but you and they will get over it if you stick to your guns. Go out have fun and don’t make a big deal about not eating what everyone else eats. You will be so glad you did and the gains will show in the gym or on the field.
This is a kick start. Three simple tips to follow to start you on the path to success. I believe in moderation but be very clear and know exactly what the result is.
